Family Nurse Practitioner

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Johns Hopkins University 2017

I began my nursing career in a trauma center ICU where many shifts are still unforgettable decades later not only for the complexity of medical treatment required but for the grace and fortitude shown by people at their best amidst the worst.
With that inspiration to advance my medical skills, I returned to the University of South Carolina for training as a Family Nurse Practitioner. During later years of providing primary care, I began to devote more time to working in psychiatry.
I then obtained more in depth education from Johns Hopkins University, where I trained as the school's first nurse practitioner student in telepsychiatry.
I have now provided primary medical care and/or mental health care as a nurse practitioner in over 80,000 patient visits for ages 18 months to 80+ years old.
My approach is to observe and listen with curiosity and optimism to the individual seeking better health, so that we may then have a conversation and learn how to best collaborate to secure all the good that is possible.

I am a Seminary trained Licensed Clinical Therapist and a Military Combat Veteran with experience serving in ministry overseas for over 3 years. I have collaborated and successfully worked with clients from many different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicity, sexual orientations, and religious faiths that struggle with different mental disorders, health conditions and stressors including but not limited to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and trauma.

I approach therapy in a practical way and bring various life experiences to session. I am a Combat Veteran and a mother. I have experience working with various clients and backgrounds i.e. adults, adolescents, teens, women, men, and people with various cultural and religious backgrounds.

My passion is to help people understand their life struggles and collaborate to find the best way for them not only to process through their trauma but to find a way forward and live life and not just survive through life. To find healing and restore peace to their lives.
When we love a person, we accept him or her exactly as is: the lovely with the unlovely, the strong with the fearful, the true mixed in with the façade, and of course, the only way we can do it is by accepting ourselves that way.” ― Fred Rogers
